The Almighty states in the Qur’an:
“Righteousness is this that one believes in The Almighty and the last day and the angels and the Book and the prophets,
and gives away wealth out of love for Him to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and the beggars
and for the emancipation of the captives, and keeps up prayer and pays the zakat” (2:177).
West Bengal Charity Foundation is a relief and development charity which works from Preston, Dewsbury and Peterborough. It was started in 2012. The charity began when a family member visited 24 North Parganas, West Bengal, India and realised the local community needed support in terms of nutrition, education, medical care and employment.
Since then, the charity has expanded its efforts and has also begun supporting communities in the Bukedi region of East Uganda, Africa since February 2024.
The poverty rate in the eastern region of Uganda is high, with some estimates placing it at around 42%, which is higher than the national average poverty rate in Uganda. Due to these circumstances, the foundation has extended its support to the Bukedi region of East Uganda to assist communities in improving their living conditions.
The charity is operated by volunteers from Preston, Dewsbury and Peterborough with the support and advice of local Ulemas. Projects are supervised and monitored by volunteers from the UK to ensure that all initiatives are properly implemented and genuinely benefit the communities.
Volunteers regularly visit West Bengal and East Uganda to oversee the work being carried out and to ensure transparency and accountability in all charitable activities.
The charity is a registered charity with the Charity Commission in the UK and operates on a 100% donation policy.
